Blues Revue - Feb 2008 - by Tom Hyslop
Pianist David Egan delivers a stellar second album. You Don’t Know
Your Mind
(Out of the Past Records) drips with New Orleans atmosphere: “Money’s
Farm”
is solid Crescent City rumboogie, “If It Is What It Is (It’s Love)”
plays
like a lost Louis Armstrong chestnut, and “You’re Lyin’ Again”
channels Fats
Domino. The hammering, upbeat shuffle “Smile” and the title track,
its sad, cautionary tone couched in minor-key funk, bookend the set. Egan’s
singing is warm and relaxed, and arrangements are faultless, with the
brilliant Lil’
Buck Sinegal joining Joe McMahan and Buddy Flett on guitar. |
